Ei3 Corporation announced today that Underwriters Laboratories has listed its Amphion Model 12. This listing is the result of UL's testing and inspections and certifies that the device is in compliance with safety standards and able to carry the UL mark. The Amphion has been tested by UL to verify its conformity to CB Scheme standard IEC 60950-1, and UL has compiled a technical file for Ei3 to declare conformity CE to EN55022 and EN 55024. As a result, Ei3 is now shipping Amphion devices bearing the UL listing and CE marks.
The Amphion joins Ei3 Corporation's product line of OEM-oriented Smart Service solutions that are based upon secure access controls, remote monitoring, and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications. From within a small industrial package the Amphion has advanced features including; firewalling, secure VPN tunneling, routing, and network address translation.
"It is important to point out that we have a long history of delivering security solutions to enable technical support." said Dr. Bruce Platt, Ei3's VP and leader of the Amphion development team. "When we designed the Amphion, we built upon our years of experience and placed all the functions needed for secure remote service into this single device."
The Amphion is designed to meet the stringent requirements of OEM companies that want to enjoy the benefits of reducing start-up and warranty costs while creating new Smart Service programs to serve their customers. It is a global product that meets the needs of a global customer base. It mounts on DIN rail, accepts 24 VDC power, and has an international wall power supply option. An alternate version of the Amphion includes a conventional modem built-in for Out-of-Band OOB management, enabling a telephone session to remotely re-configure the broadband communications.
"The timing for achieving UL listing for the Amphion could not be better. Right now equipment manufacturers are searching for ways to increase profitability by serving their customer base better," said Spencer Cramer, Ei3’s President & CEO. "By teaming two of our products together, Amphion and Argo, we can help an OEM company easily get into the Smart Services business because this combination saves them money and time and delivers scalable performance with very low risk."
In fact Ei3's Amphion hardware device has been designed to dovetail nicely with the company's Argo remote service security platform. Argo is a multi-tenant, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) security framework that enables rapid deployment of access control and auditing. It has been designed from the ground up to enable technical personnel to securely connect to equipment to provide support, calibration, maintenance and upgrades. For machines that have a local Ethernet backbone the Amphion’s routing and network address translation enable quick connectivity, and for devices that use other protocols Ei3 has a wide range of interface solutions that are compatible with the Amphion.
The Amphion is built upon a flexible architecture and can support a wide range of customizations to meet individual customer needs. Ei3 has plans to release additional versions of the Amphion in the future including wireless internet and cellular models.
"UL listing is a very important step for the Amphion, not only because our current partners require it," remarked Spencer Cramer, "also, there is tremendous interest in the Amphion and acquiring these approvals show our commitment to meet the needs of global market partners."
