Project Challenge
Hilton sought a software solution to measure, analyze, and manage utility consumption across its large global portfolio. In 2001, Hilton engaged ei3 to establish a comprehensive utility management platform, based on ei3’s IoT solutions. The resulting solution, LightStay, has since won numerous awards and is now mandatory for every Hilton property around the globe. This custom-built solution predicts hotels’ energy, water, and waste usage and tracks actual consumption against these predictive models.
Any enterprise who wishes to monitor the use of resources can benefit from ei3’s capabilities in gathering, aggregating, and comparing operational data against modeled ideal usage to reduce cost and energy consumption while helping the environment.

In the nearly 100 years since its foundation, Hilton has established the global benchmark for excellence in hospitality. Today, Hilton maintains a diverse portfolio of 14 brands comprising nearly 5,400 properties in 106 countries.
Social Network Dashboard
LightStay turns energy management into a competitive challenge. on a worldwide scale. Hilton hotels compare their energy consumption and share details about energy conservation projects that they execute.
At every instance, hotel management and staff can see how they are currently doing against their friends. And if they are falling behind, then can see what the other hotels are doing to beat them – and in this instance, copying is not only allowed but encouraged. When saving energy, there are no losers: everybody wins.

LightStay uses sophisticated mathematical models backed with artificial intelligence to continuously compare real-time operational data against complex models trained on historical information, and forecasts future energy consumption levels and evaluate operational efficiency.

Automatic alerts are created when a hotel falls below the expected performance level. Management is then prompted to take remedial actions.

Based on these insights, LightStay allows hotel proprietors and management to track environmental and social impact based on energy, carbon, water, waste, building and property operations. Any effect of an improvement project is immediately visible and therefore manageable. Results are comprehensive, validated, and externally verified annually, and form the bases for sustainability certifications.

Hotels are able to assess the carbon footprint of hosted events such as meetings or conferences, in addition to regular guest nights. LightStay is now in use by all Hilton properties in the world, allowing a truly global (and fair) comparison and performance tracking of all hotels.
